Did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there?

“Did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there?”- Drops Of Jupiter by Train.  Pat Monahan wrote this song soon after his Mom passed away following a battle with cancer.  This song came to him in a dream, where his Mom’s spirit could go anywhere. She explored the universe and came back to tell her dear son about it.

The great thing about music is that you can always interpret lyrics to your own life and find deeper meaning.  That’s what the project #LyricsToLiveLifeBy is all about.  The lyric “Did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there?” to me can be interpreted a couple of different ways.

It could literally be speaking about someone else, someone who left to go find themselves on this journey of life, and then comes back to their friend like nothing ever happened, or wanting to pick up where they left off.  Has this happened to you?  Have you had someone in your life who made an exit at a tumultuous time in their life, and then wanted to reconnect?

Or perhaps you could interpret this lyric with “YOU” as the “ME”?  Have you ever got so focused on someone else or something else that you lost – YOU?  The whole time you thought you were living your best life, or growing as an individual only to find that you truly lost – YOU.  I think everyone has had that situation happen in their life in some way, shape or form.  Take 5 minutes right now.  Stop.  Think about your life.  To steal a line from Pat Monahan “Was it everything you wanted to find?”  Pull out your phone and record yourself audio or video just brain dumping your thoughts on one of the two above situations.  Clarity in life and moving forward are two of the most important things you can give yourself.
